When was the last time you sat in nature and did something using only your hands and what you found outside? We are an interconnected part of the natural world, yet we spend most of our time in human-made environments interacting with human-made objects. Unlike all other species, we are uniquely isolated from the world around us, and yet research and common wisdom show that connection to nature is integral to our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.

If we each take responsibility for reconnecting ourselves and our children with the wild places around us, we can shift the trend from isolation back towards interrelatedness. My own work is geared towards reconnecting all the inhabitants of my local ecosystem, which includes my children and my community of people, trees, animals, plants etc.

Behaving as if the God in All Life Mattered
by MacHaelle S. WrightBeware all you closed-minded folks, this book is way out there, but I love it because it is written in such a straightforward way. The author gives a brief autobiography then proceeds to explain how she began working directly with plant wisdom—actually hearing advice from the plants—in order to create an extraordinary herbal medicine farm, one which has continued to thrive to this day. The title and front cover of the book was enough to make me want to read it, but I had no idea what I was in for. Some of the advice from plants is truly extraordinary, and made me really think twice about how things work in this world. I am particularly fascinated by the crossover between her work and the new homeopathy, where patients are essentially tapping into the same well of knowledge to describe the essence of the remedy they need.
